Drilling for dewatering
are used to lower the static water level by pumping water from wells, which build exactly for this reason. It is make most often in construction works related to the excavation of large trenches that are filled with water. They are also used to lower water levels near residential buildings. Somethimes and to remove water from previous structures that extend below the current excavation.
In these cases the water-lowering well is made near the construction site, after which a pump is put into the well and the water is taken to a place convenient for this. In this way, the water levels of the groundwater are lowered and construction activities are facilitated.
It’s a gravity-based system, with wells that are wider and deeper than a wellpoint system.
This dewatering method is best-suited for job sites that need to pump out large amounts of groundwater, or require significant drawdowns, but it can handle multiple excavation depths. It also works well in high-permeability soils.
